The Blue Ravine is a narrow gorge of the Ilathw River at its exit point from the Black Mountains. Named for the bright blue color of the Ilathw in this part of its course, it has been known since at least the time of the Archaic Aribelians, with several megalithic sites remaining in the area. Due to its relatively narrow profile and the very variable and deep riverbed, it was never a major point of entry into the Black Mountains, which are significantly more accessible at Nís to the north and through the Caelan Gap to the south.
